Dancehall songstress Ishawna in recent years, has transformed into quite a controversial personality with her risque songs and on-stage antics that have drawn the ire of many of her compatriots and music fans; nonetheless, she seems unbothered by the criticism.
In the wee hours of Saturday morning, her performance at the the 2022 staging of Reggae Sumfest has once again thrust her into the crosshairs of the critics.
During her performance of the song Equal Right which addresses the taboo subject of oral sex, she brought on stage a life-size cut out of dancehall luminary Bounty Killer as a prop, eventually placing it flat on the stage before squatting over it in a sexual manner.
Her action caused the crowd to erupt. However, not everyone was pleased with the singer’s behaviour.
The Warlord was at the venue during her presentation and was seen making a hasty exit with his entourage in hot pursuit.Â
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, for whom she also had cutouts, were also recipients of her over-sexualized set.
Since the incident, many dancehall fans have taken to social media to voice their opinion, with some noting the performance as distasteful. In contrast, others laud it as empowering and liberating for women.
Ishawna is currently promoting her latest single, Brace It featuring British superstar Ed Sheeran. The single has racked up almost 500,000 via her official Youtube artiste channel.
