Buju Banton has emerged as the only Jamaican artiste with a new 2026 album confirmed to have spent at least two weeks inside the Top 10 of the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, placing the reggae icon in a category all his own. His project Too Too Bad debuted at No. 8 before slipping to No. 10 in its second week, securing a sustained Top 10 run that no other Jamaican 2026 release has matched so far. The achievement is especially notable in a year when only four Jamaican albums have reached the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart.

Released on July 17 through Gargamel Music and VP Records, Too Too Bad marked Buju Banton’s 13th entry on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. The album’s strong debut was powered by a solid digital rollout, including a No. 3 opening on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Albums Chart and a No. 17 placement on the Worldwide iTunes All Genres Albums Chart. The project also signals a return to Buju’s dancehall foundation, with the Grammy-winning artiste reiterating his long-held stance that “you cannot trap dancehall,” while encouraging innovation rooted in the genre’s cultural identity.

The album’s Billboard performance has set it apart from other Jamaican releases in 2026. Protoje’s The Art of Acceptance debuted at No. 9 in April, while Vybz Kartel’s God & Time delivered the year’s highest Jamaican debut at No. 6 in June. Alkaline’s NPT also made an impact, entering at No. 10.

With only four Jamaican albums so far reaching the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart in 2026, Buju Banton’s Too Too Bad currently stands alone in achieving a sustained two-week Top 10 presence. As the year continues, that distinction may yet be challenged, but for now, Buju Banton holds a rare Billboard milestone that underscores his enduring global relevance.
