Dancehall star Mavado is celebrating a major career milestone as his 2010 hit When U Feel Lonely earns its first British Silver certification, just weeks before his highly anticipated return to Canada after nine years. The Daseca Productions-produced track has reached the equivalent of 200,000 units in UK sales and streams, marking the Gully Gad’s first British music certification ahead of his scheduled November 5 performance at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.
The achievement highlights the enduring appeal of Mavado’s catalogue, with When U Feel Lonely continuing to connect with audiences more than a decade after its release. The certification also underscores the role of streaming in extending the commercial life of established dancehall records, allowing classic tracks to reach new listeners and generate renewed interest across international markets.
Meanwhile, Mavado is preparing for his return to the Canadian stage for the first time since 2017. He is set to headline Mavado & Friends Live, billed as The Return of the Gully Gad, at Scotiabank Arena on November 5, with fellow dancehall artistes Masicka and Armanii joining the line-up. The concert represents another significant moment in Mavado’s international career, reconnecting him with Canadian fans after a nine-year absence.
The upcoming performance follows a series of high-profile international appearances alongside longtime dancehall rival Vybz Kartel, including their reunion performances in London and Malta in September. Those appearances have helped sustain attention around the two artistes and the evolving relationships within dancehall.
With his first British Silver certification adding fresh recognition to his musical legacy and a major Toronto show on the horizon, Mavado is entering another notable chapter in his international career. His November return will provide an opportunity to reconnect with Canadian fans while celebrating a catalogue that continues to resonate beyond Jamaica.
