Dancehall star Popcaan has reportedly arrived in the United States following news of his U.S. visa approval, marking a significant development after years of public calls for the Unruly Boss to gain access to one of music’s biggest markets. The news has sparked jubilant reactions from fellow artistes and supporters, with Bounty Killer, Ding Dong Ravers and Jah Vinci among those celebrating the moment.
Popcaan’s sister, who goes by the name Unruly Squid on Instagram, shared a celebratory post on her feed, alongside video footage of the artiste’s arrival on her Stories. Popcaan also joined in the celebrations, posting a video of himself and members of his team aboard a private jet, waving American flag handkerchiefs as they travelled to the U.S.
Among the artistes reacting to the news was dancehall veteran Bounty Killer, who congratulated Popcaan with the message, “Super congratulations Andre God a God”. Meanwhile, Ding Dong Ravers simply declared, “dat is it”, while Jah Vinci expressed his excitement with the enthusiastic response, “YU KNOW NOW!!!!!🙌🔥”. Their comments reflect the excitement surrounding the development within the dancehall fraternity.
The news carries particular significance given the public advocacy surrounding Popcaan’s U.S. visa situation. In 2023, the artiste questioned why he could travel to other destinations but not America, posting on X, formerly Twitter, “Why they let me into everywhere except America?” He subsequently launched his “1st Time in America” campaign, calling on supporters to help amplify his appeal for travel access.
The latest development follows a period in which several prominent reggae and dancehall artistes, including Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Sizzla Kalonji, Vybz Kartel and Bounty Killer, have regained U.S. visa access, renewing discussions about the opportunities available to Jamaican music acts in the American market. For Popcaan, whose international catalogue includes collaborations with Drake, Jamie xx and Gorillaz, the reported approval could open the door to new performance opportunities and further strengthen his connection with U.S. audiences.
While the reported arrival marks a major milestone for the Unruly Boss, fans will now be watching closely for details of his first U.S. performance and what this new chapter could mean for his international career.
