Speaking on the U.K.-based Rated Show during his current international promotional run, the Genasyde deejay said “Whites” created “a lot of opportunities” for him, while admitting he never anticipated just how big the song would become. The track, released on October 31, 2024, has since developed into one of Masicka’s most recognisable releases, with approximately 14.9 million Spotify streams and more than 43.3 million combined YouTube views on its official and remix music videos, according to figures supplied for this report. Spotify currently lists “Whites” among Masicka’s top tracks.
Reflecting on the song’s unexpected rise, Masicka explained that his approach to music is deliberately ambitious. “The thing is me always do every record with the intention of it being big. Me try fi go hard pon every record if me can,” he said. He recalled that the reaction was immediate even before the record fully took off, explaining that when he received the riddim, voiced the song and played it for people around him, they consistently recognised that it had “a vibe”. Once “Whites” reached the internet, he said, it quickly took off. Its French Montana remix has also extended the record’s international footprint, with more than 4.6 million YouTube views.

His debut album, 438, and sophomore project, Generation of Kings, both reached No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, establishing him as one of dancehall’s strongest album performers of the streaming era. Masicka has also previously described his ambitions as extending beyond the Caribbean, with a focus on becoming a fully established dancehall artiste in the United States.
Now, with Forever Reign arriving on August 14 and Masicka scheduled to headline Brooklyn’s Barclays Center the following day, “Whites” has become more than a successful single.
