Weeks after announcing Forever Reign, Masicka has finally broken his silence on the highly anticipated third studio album, offering fans their first detailed look at what awaits. Speaking with Reggaeville after his performance at Summerjam, the dancehall star described the project as “a masterpiece”, revealing that it explores vulnerability, motivation and personal growth while teasing unexpected collaborations that he believes will surprise the dancehall community.
According to Masicka, Forever Reign represents growth, elevation and the next chapter of his journey as both an artiste and an individual. “Fans can expect a lot of vulnerability, a lot of motivational songs, just me growing and the journey all put into one body of work and they won’t be disappointed,” he said. While expressing confidence in the project, the Genasyde boss credited the dedication of his team, adding: “I’m not tooting my own horn too much but we put a lot of effort into it, a lot of thought and work, me and the team and I hope they receive it as much as I envision it.” He also confirmed that producers Dunw3ll, Kabba and Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor are among the contributors, while hinting that several “crazy collaborations” will leave dancehall fans talking.
The deejay also opened up about his creative process, admitting that although he has perfectionist tendencies, he has learned to trust the people around him. “I’m somewhat of a perfectionist but I also like to make the work flow and don’t be in my head too much, so if the team say they like something I will just work with it. I am more of a perfectionist when it comes to the artform,” he explained. Reflecting on his musical evolution, Masicka said his mindset has changed significantly since releasing his debut album 438 in 2021 and its follow-up Generation of Kings in 2023. Rather than trying to outdo his previous work, he now focuses on ensuring each project reflects a different stage of his life and carries its own unique identity. Looking back at 438, he described it as a raw, youthful body of work created during the early stages of his career when he was more aggressive and expressive.
The interview arrives just weeks after Masicka announced that Forever Reign will be released on August 14, one day before his first major U.S. headlining concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The timing has fuelled anticipation for what many fans believe could become a defining weekend in his career, with a major album rollout and one of his biggest international performances set to unfold back-to-back. If Masicka delivers on his bold promise, Forever Reign could mark another milestone in his continued rise on the global dancehall stage.
