In the latest development following his broadside attack on Popcaan over the weekend, accusing him of being a “gatekeeper,” dancehall artiste Teejay has once again stirred the pot of controversy, this time directing his lyrical venom at trending sensation Valiant. The untitled track, previewed on Teejay’s official Instagram account, sees the “Drift” hitmaker questioning the authenticity of those who claim superiority in the dancehall realm, notably challenging with the lines,
“Who seh dem badda dan we? Dem nah nuh rifle chargie…” Notably, the track employs a rhyme scheme reminiscent of Valiant’s 2023 hit “Glock 40.”
Responding to this subliminal shot, Valiant took to his official Instagram story, asserting, “Mi naah give you no strength for your EP sir, go work and promote it 😄.” This response appears to be a firm declaration of Valiant’s decision not to engage in a feud, emphasizing that Teejay should focus on the necessary efforts to promote his upcoming EP.

Teejay’s forthcoming project, a nine-track EP titled “I Am Chippy,” along with a bonus track, is currently available for preorder and is scheduled for release on February 2, 2024, across major digital and streaming platforms. The EP boasts collaborations with notable artists such as Tommy Lee Sparta, Malie Donn, Davido, Bayka, Skillibeng, Star, and Quada. The official cover art for the project was unveiled earlier this week.
This latest controversy unfolds against the backdrop of Teejay’s recent feature in Billboard Magazine, where he shared insights into his aspirations to delve into Afrobeats and contribute to shaping the global trajectory of dancehall. The artist’s multifaceted endeavours continue to generate attention, both musically and within the industry landscape.
