After more than three decades of entertaining dancehall fans, Mr. Lexx is receiving his flowers in a major way. The Jamaican entertainer was recently presented with a certificate of recognition by the City of Brampton in Canada, honouring his contribution to music, culture and the global reach of Caribbean entertainment. The recognition was presented by Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown as a gesture of appreciation for the veteran artiste, whose distinctive voice, personality and catalogue have made him a familiar name across Jamaica and the diaspora.
Mr. Lexx, whose real name is Christopher Palmer, later took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the honour and the love he has received from Canada throughout his career. He described being recognised for doing what he loves as “the greatest feeling” and thanked God, his management team and the fans who have supported him along the way. “Thanks to the fans #diggynation,” he wrote, crediting their loyalty for carrying him throughout his journey.
Emerging on the Jamaican music scene in the early 1990s under the name Lexxus, the dancehall star built his reputation through a raspy delivery, witty lyrics and energetic stage presence. His career gained major momentum towards the end of the decade with songs including Get Wid It, Yu Nah, Cook, Ring Mi Cellie and Gonna Make Some Money. His 2000 album, Mr. Lexx, also spent five weeks on the Billboard Reggae Chart and peaked at No. 12, further cementing his place in the dancehall landscape.
In recognising Mr. Lexx, the City of Brampton highlighted his talent, creativity and cultural contribution, while acknowledging the role his music has played in carrying Caribbean traditions to audiences beyond Jamaica. More than 30 years after his journey began, the latest honour serves as another reminder that the veteran entertainer’s impact on dancehall continues to resonate across generations and borders.
