Dancehall artiste Kiprich, real name Marlon Plunkett, is facing another devastating loss in what he describes as one of the roughest years of his life. The entertainer is mourning his father, Magnus Lloyd Plunkett, who died suddenly in Jamaica in August at age 72 after his brother found him unresponsive at home. The elder Plunkett had been battling kidney illness for a protracted period, but his death came months after Kiprich and his fiancée lost their newborn baby, leaving the deejay to navigate two deeply personal tragedies in the same year.

Kiprich said his brother, amid meal preparation, went to check on their father and found him unresponsive. Magnus was subsequently taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Affectionately known as Mr Chin, the elder Plunkett was remembered by his son as a businessman and selfless mentor whose influence extended well beyond his immediate family. He leaves behind his wife, Carrol Plunkett, and five children: Kiprich, Ricardo, Sprite Rafer, Jamal and Kayla Plunkett.

The latest loss adds another painful chapter to a difficult period for Kiprich, who was also cleared in November 2025 after prosecutors abandoned a case alleging that he had used a customised dubplate to promote the One Order Gang. The prosecution acknowledged that it lacked voice-recognition or forensic evidence to establish that Kiprich was the voice on the recording. During that ordeal, the artiste turned to music for strength, releasing God Pickney and describing music as his therapy.

For now, however, the focus is on family and grief. As Kiprich mourns a father he described as a major influence on his life, his words about this being one of the roughest years capture the weight of a year that has tested him both personally and professionally.
