Elephant Man, who has faced considerable criticism for his perceived silence following the death of his friend and former Scare Dem Crew member, Boom Dandimite, publicly paid tribute to him during a performance at the Out Of This World Music Fest in the Cayman Islands over the weekend.Â
Addressing the situation before commencing his rendition of P Diddy’s “Missing You,” Elephant Man said, “Turn on your lighters, turn on your cellphone; this one is for Boom Dandimite, condolence to your family.” He also acknowledged the strained relationship between himself and Dandimite but dismissed the need for a public display of grief on social media amid giving a shout-out to Bounty Killer.
“Bounty Killer says Elephant although yuh and Dandimite have oonu bad terms yuh need fi post, but mi nuh live fi Instagram, big up Bounty Killer, it’s a sad time right now everybaddy who love Boom Dandimite, Donovan Stewart you will be missed. Cayman, dis is the first time I came here was with Boom Dandimite, Harry Toddler, and Nitty Kutchie, put yuh lighters in the air; let it go…”
The crowd responded by obediently raising their lighters in tribute.
The festival, held at the Festival Green in Caymana Bay on Saturday, June 3, featured fellow headliners like Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes, and Patrice Roberts.
Prior to the concert, Elephant Man, also known as the Energy Gad, addressed allegations made by Bounty Killer while he was in Canada. The energetic entertainer explained that he was grieving in his own way and didn’t feel the need to publicly express his sorrow on social media. He further revealed that he was among the first to learn about Dandimite slipping into a coma during the period.
Bounty Killer had criticized Elephant Man for not offering condolences to Dandimite’s family and referred to him as a “real animal.” He also accused Elephant Man of lacking emotions when his own mother, Miss Yvonne, passed away.
Boom Dandimite tragically died in a US hospital after experiencing complications in his recovery from a car accident in Jamaica.
