Several weeks ago, tragedy struck when former member of the 90s dancehall group Scare Dem Crew, Boom Dandimite, and emerging artist Willful Skilful were involved in a car accident on Half Way Tree Road. Willful Skilful, seated in the front of the Mitsubishi motor car, recounted that their vehicle collided with an oncoming Suzuki Swift allegedly due to excessive speed. The impact of the collision was so severe that Boom Dandimite lost consciousness and reportedly suffered a seizure.
Following the accident, Boom Dandimite was immediately rushed to the hospital and admitted in an unconscious state with severe injuries. Initially, his condition showed signs of improvement, offering some hope amidst the concern expressed by the dancehall community. Many sent their well-wishes and prayers for his speedy recovery.
However, the news took a devastating turn on Sunday morning when it was reported that Boom Dandimite had passed away in a US hospital. His journey to the United States had ended tragically, as he fainted shortly after disembarking the plane. Medical professionals discovered blood clots, complications, and pneumonia, ultimately revealing that several of his medical issues had gone unaddressed during his treatment in Jamaica.
Boom Dandimite, also known as Herman Stewart, was a pivotal member of the Scare Dem Crew, alongside Nitty Kutchie, Harry Toddler, and Elephant Man, during the 1990s. The crew, closely associated with Bounty Killer, embarked on tours that provided them with exposure, leading to hits like “Pure Gal” and “Many Many.”
Regrettably, Boom Dandimite’s untimely demise has left a void in the music industry. He had been eagerly anticipated to perform at the upcoming Reggae Sumfest on July 21 as part of the Boombox 90’s Badness event, sharing the stage with reputed artists such as General B, Harry Toddler, Jigsy King, Mega Banton, Nitty Kutchie, Silver Cat, and Tony Curtis. The loss of Boom Dandimite has undoubtedly cast a shadow over the dancehall industry, leaving behind cherished memories of his contributions.
