In October of 2022, it was reported by Prism Marketing Consultants that dancehall artist Flippa Moggela, formerly known as Flippa Mafia, had been granted early release from prison, as per public records from the New Jersey Department of Corrections. However, despite the release, the artist was being held in a detention centre.
On Thursday (April 13, 2023), Flippa shared a clip on his official Instagram account, showing himself being released from the detention centre, where he can be seen dancing and shouting, “Freedom is a must.” He captioned the post, “Happy but Sad again Out but Back in God always gives the strongest soldiers the hardest fight see y’all in 90 days and Happy Birthday to the Prophet Capleton More Life.”
The caption indicates that Flippa is still not fully released, as a 90-day period remains.
In June 2016, Flippa Mafia, whose real name is Andrew Davis, was convicted of possession of a dangerous and controlled substance in the form of cocaine, conspiracy to distribute a dangerous substance, and money laundering. The flamboyant artist was initially found guilty on December 15, 2015. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on the charge of leading a network of drug traffickers, which Davis was also accused of.
Official court documents stated that Davis should have been released on August 11, 2030. However, he was granted early release after serving nearly 9 of his 17-year sentence. The network was indicted on charges related to “Operation Next Day Air” on January 10, 2014, as per trial records. The investigation was spearheaded by the New Jersey State Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the State of New Jersey Department of Criminal Justice.
During the investigation, officers seized two firearms, over $500,000 in cash, and more than 26 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of over $960,000. While Flippa Mafia was on the entertainment scene, he was known for throwing away large quantities of cash at events, contributing significantly to his bombastic persona.
During his incarceration, Flippa Mafia reportedly completed high school and earned a college degree. However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the artist, as he still has a 90-day period left before his full release.
