The start of the Easter season has brought good news for Reggae singer Bugle whose “Toxicity (Deluxe)” album has secured a nomination for “Album of the Year” in the Reggae category at the upcoming JaRIA Honour Awards set for Easter Monday (April 10) at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston.
The revelation was made on Wednesday afternoon by the organizing committee. Other contenders vying in the category are Tanya Stephens (Some Kinda Madness), Bling Dawg (Elev8) and Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid (The Kalling). The Album of the Year will be awarded in three categories: Reggae, Dancehall and Gospel.
Toxicity Deluxe, a 16-track set, comprises seven new offerings with features from some of the most noted and accomplished luminaries in the industry, including Marcia Griffiths, Bounty Killer, Kabaka Pyramid, Dexta Daps, Ding Dong, Laa Lee, Dj Brandon, Adena Myrie, Tony Gold, Nation Boss, Bobo Flamez, AfroBeat Billboard hitmaker Heph B and GRAMMY nominees Julian Marley and Jesse Royal.
Jampacked with hits, the compilation witnesses Bugle flexing his lyricism across a myriad of genres from dancehall to reggae, ska and afrobeat, yet adroitly maintaining the message of positivity sprinkled with catchy and funfilled melodies. Executively produced by An9ted Entertainment, the album is jointly distributed by VPal Music and Evidence Music and was released on Friday, August 26, 2022.
The Honour Awards is a formal red-carpet event with substance, staged with a 30-piece orchestra befitting the status and accomplishments of the thirty-one (31) Awardees. The show recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the music industry, particularly those who toil behind the scenes.
Currently trending on popular social media platform Tik Tok, Bugle’s 2013 dancehall classic “Nuh Compatible” has found favour with the platform’s young audience in a new trend started by user “Tori La Reine” dubbed “slow whine tek timeeee dj scarta“.
Her initial post has generated over 1083 videos from other users, accumulating millions of views. Meanwhile, his latest collaborative effort, ‘Us’, featuring eclectic singer GiHRL, continues to gain traction across the diaspora. Last week, the single debuted at No.117 on Norway’s Apple Music Reggae Singles Chart.
