The music industry in Jamaica mourned the sudden passing of the renowned broadcaster and music producer Arif Cooper, who died on Sunday, March 5, after collapsing while playing at an event at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.Â
On Friday, March 24, at 11 am, Arif Cooper’s Thanksgiving service will unfold at the Webster Memorial Church in Kingston, where his colleagues, friends, and family will gather to pay their final respects to the media practitioner.
Arif Cooper’s career began in 1991 when he started DJing at local parties, nightclubs, and dances. He gradually gained recognition and made his way to international festivals and major dancehall events. In 1998, he founded Fresh Ear Productions and played an instrumental role in developing 2 Hard Records. That same year, he joined FAME FM as a radio disc jock and held the position until his untimely death.
Throughout his career, Arif Cooper played a vital role in the development and careers of countless artists, including Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul, Tami Chynn, Jah Cure, Alaine, Elephant Man, Baby Cham, Demarco, Aidonia, Konshens, Wayne Marshall, Christopher Martin, and Charly Black. He is also responsible for numerous hit singles, including Sean Paul’s “Hold My Hand,” Tami Chynn’s “Over and Over,” and Demarco’s “True Friend“, among others.
The entertainment community will always remember Arif Cooper’s immense contribution to the Jamaican music industry. His legacy will live on through the myriad of people he has influenced and mentored.
