Following last Saturday’s staging of the annual “Essence of Reggae Music Festival” at the Police Officers Club in Kingston, chief organiser Comar “Frankie” Campbell says he’s upbeat about the festival’s future.
According to Frankie, since the culmination of Saturday event, there has been a surge of interest from several major corporate entities and Government-based agencies to invest in the undertaking for the foreseeable future,
“Mentally, I am in a good place right now. Regarding the festival, over the weekend, my team and I have been in numerous high-profile meetings, and the forecast is looking very positive,” he told Prism Marketing Consultants in an exclusive interview.
Though not at liberty to divulge the specifics, the Grammy-Award-winning producer, artiste manager and businessman says the next staging of the festival will be held on February 3, 2024, and plans are already in motion for an even more significant undertaking.
This year’s staging, sponsored by Wray & Nephew, TVJ, Zip FM, Frankie Music, Avery’s Beauty Concept and Sunshine Snacks, boasted a stellar lineup of industry heavyweights and upstarts showcasing live music presentations to an appreciative audience. The highlight of the night was a fiery set by Rastafarian crooner Bugle backed by Tower Band; Tanya Stephen took fans on a journey, while Laa Lee showed off his impeccable dancing skills. Other noteworthy sets come courtesy of Darrio, Duane Stephensons, Voicemail, Qyor, Ras-I and Mackeehan.
The “Essence of Reggae Music Festival“, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, is the first festival staged in Kingston since the start of the new year and the only one during the Reggae Month celebrations in the city. Frankie explains that the intent is to make it a staple on the annual social calendar for lovers of reggae and live music.
