Inner Circle’s timeless reggae anthem Sweat (A La La La La Long) has reached another historic milestone, earning platinum certification in the United Kingdom more than three decades after it first captivated audiences worldwide. The 1992 classic has officially surpassed 600,000 units through combined digital sales and streaming activity, cementing its place among reggae’s most successful international crossover hits.

The latest achievement highlights the lasting influence of the Jamaican band’s signature track, which continues to connect with listeners across generations. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) confirmed the platinum status on Friday, July 10, recognising the song’s remarkable longevity and its continued popularity in the UK music market. Released as the lead single from Inner Circle’s 12th studio album, Bad to the Bone, the track was penned by brothers Ian and Roger Lewis and brought to life by the distinctive vocals of Carlton Coffie.

Sweat became a massive international crossover success, reaching No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Its global impact stretched even further, with the reggae anthem reaching No. 1 in several countries, including Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Israel and Zimbabwe, while also securing top-10 positions across multiple international markets.

The latest UK platinum award adds to an extensive list of certifications accumulated by the song over more than three decades. Sweat has also earned gold and multi-platinum honours in several major markets, reinforcing its status as one of Inner Circle’s most successful and enduring recordings.

More than three decades after its release, Sweat (A La La La La Long) continues to prove the staying power of Jamaican reggae on the global stage, with a new generation of listeners helping an unmistakable 1990s classic reach yet another career-defining milestone.
