Vybz Kartel continues to expand his international music credentials, earning his first Double Platinum certification in Canada as his 2016 hit single “Fever” surpasses 160,000 units in combined sales and streaming equivalents. Announced by Music Canada on November 5, the achievement adds another major milestone to the Jamaican dancehall star’s catalogue, which already includes Gold recognition for “Fever” in the United States and United Kingdom. The latest development follows Silver certification for Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor”, featuring Kartel and Afrojack, in the UK last month, further highlighting the artiste’s enduring commercial reach across international markets.
Released in June 2016 as part of Kartel’s King of the Dancehall album, “Fever” has grown into one of his most internationally recognised recordings. Its Canadian Double Platinum award comes after the single earned Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in February 2020 and a UK Gold award from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on July 3, 2026. The track previously received UK Silver certification in February 2023 before progressing to Gold, reflecting its continued consumption in the British market.
Meanwhile, Kartel’s latest UK certification comes through “Pon De Floor”, Major Lazer’s 2009 collaboration featuring the dancehall star and Dutch DJ Afrojack. Certified Silver by the BPI on October 23, the track surpassed 200,000 combined sales and streams in Britain. It also reached No. 41 on Billboard’s Dance Digital Song Sales chart and ranked No. 60 on Billboard’s 100 Best Dance Songs of All Time. Its influence extended into mainstream pop when Beyoncé sampled its beat for her global hit “Run the World (Girls)”.
The latest Canadian award also adds to Kartel’s growing list of international achievements following his return to the global music spotlight. “Fever” has accumulated more than 100 million YouTube views, reinforcing its status as one of his signature dancehall records. Its continued performance across streaming and sales platforms, years after its original release, highlights the longevity of Kartel’s catalogue and the international reach of Jamaican music.
With The Sun, announced for December 18, 2026, expected to mark another chapter in his recording career, Kartel enters the closing months of the year with fresh recognition from two major international markets. From “Fever” earning Double Platinum in Canada to “Pon De Floor” securing UK Silver, his latest milestones demonstrate that his musical influence continues to extend well beyond the dancehall landscape.
