Sprint legend Usain Bolt has officially added another title to his decorated résumé — Global Ambassador for Jamaica’s Tourism. The announcement, made during the JTB’s 70th anniversary celebration at the historic Devon House in Kingston, marks a powerful union between Jamaica’s most recognizable global figure and the country’s ongoing efforts to promote tourism as a tool for national development and poverty reduction.
“I will continue to represent my country to the best of my ability,” Bolt declared, as he accepted the role in front of a cheering crowd. With charisma that matched his Olympic form, he added, “We have a deal, but we trying to make it a lifetime, right? We going to work on that.” The appointment solidifies Bolt’s long-standing commitment to uplifting his homeland and builds on his global influence to attract more visitors to the island.
Emphasizing his motivation, Bolt said, “At the end of the day, this is where we live. One of my biggest things is to promote Jamaica so that we can help to diminish poverty and to uplift the country.” He continued, “I always try to uplift Jamaica because this is a country that has helped to make me who I am, so it is always a pleasure doing good for Jamaica.” His words struck a chord with attendees, echoing the sentiment that tourism can be a powerful force for economic transformation.
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who headlined the event, praised Bolt as a “distinguished Jamaican son” whose influence continues to expand far beyond the track. Also present were several government dignitaries, including Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange and State Minister of Tourism Delano Seiveright. Bolt’s new role is expected to help amplify Jamaica’s global reach and reinforce the island’s brand through strategic marketing and ambassadorial engagements across key international markets.
