Chronic Law has pleaded not guilty to a federal gun possession charge, but the Jamaican dancehall star remains behind bars after a Georgia judge denied him bail. The 32-year-old entertainer, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, has been ordered to remain in the custody of US Marshals pending trial as he faces a potential 15-year prison sentence and possible deportation if convicted.

The 17-minute arraignment marked a significant new phase in Chronic Law’s federal case. Prosecutors argued that he presented a serious risk of flight and that no conditions of release could guarantee his return to court or ensure the safety of the community. Judge Sheppard subsequently ordered the St Thomas native to remain in federal custody. Chronic Law has pleaded not guilty, and the allegations against him remain before the court and have not been proven.

According to the federal criminal complaint, the case stems from an incident in Georgia in November 2025, when Chronic Law was allegedly caught speeding and attempting to evade police. Authorities claim four firearms were recovered from the vehicle he was operating, with one of the weapons allegedly reported stolen in Florida. Following a separate arrest in February, federal investigators further alleged that the entertainer admitted possessing the firearms and said they had been used in music videos. Prosecutors also claim what appear to be two of the recovered weapons can be seen in separate videos featuring the dancehall artiste.

Meanwhile, Chronic Law’s immigration status is also under scrutiny. Federal authorities acknowledge that he holds the visa required to live and work in the United States but allege that it did not authorise him to possess firearms and that he failed to obtain separate permission. The court has ordered both sides to exchange discovery within 30 days, while a date for his next hearing has not yet been set.

For now, Chronic Law’s legal battle has taken another serious turn. He has entered a not-guilty plea, but with bail denied and a potential 15-year prison sentence and deportation on the table, all eyes will be on what comes next in the federal case.
