Chronic Law is heading towards a crucial new chapter in his federal gun case after a Georgia court set October 26 as his trial date, with no plea negotiations currently indicated on the record. The 32-year-old Jamaican dancehall entertainer, who has pleaded not guilty and remains in US custody after being denied bail, will first return to court for a September 30 pretrial hearing before Judge W. Louis Sands. Court records also indicate that the trial must begin by November 9 under the timeline established by the federal Speedy Trial Act.

The latest development puts a clear timetable around one of dancehall’s most closely watched legal cases. Chronic Law, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The court has also ordered both sides to file any justified written motions that could affect the trial timeline. At present, there is no indication on the record that the St Thomas native intends to enter plea negotiations, nor is there a plea offer from federal prosecutors.

The case stems from Chronic Law’s November 15, 2025 arrest in Georgia following a speeding violation. Federal authorities allege that four firearms, including a Glock pistol, a Smith & Wesson pistol, an S&W M&P 5.7 pistol and a Premiere Firearms PF-15 .223/5.56 rifle, were found in the vehicle, along with 92 rounds of ammunition and five magazines. One of the firearms was reportedly stolen in Florida. Federal investigators also allege that Chronic Law admitted during questioning in February that the weapons had been used in music videos. Those allegations have not been proven in court.

Meanwhile, prosecutors allege that although Chronic Law held a visa allowing him to live and work in the United States, he did not have the separate authorisation required to possess firearms. He was later arrested in Florida in July and transferred to Albany, Georgia, where he pleaded not guilty and was denied bail after the court heard concerns about him being a flight risk and a danger to the community.

With a September 30 pretrial hearing now approaching and an October 26 trial date on the calendar, the clock is ticking on Chronic Law’s federal case. Whether the dancehall artiste proceeds to trial as scheduled or the legal strategy changes before then, his next court appearance could offer the clearest indication yet of what lies ahead.
