Speaking with Reggaeville after his Summerjam appearance, the entertainer said he remains focused on his own journey because “everyone’s blessing is different” before boldly predicting that within the next two years he could become dancehall’s next king. The confident declaration arrives as the fast-rising artiste continues strengthening his position as one of Jamaica’s most talked-about new-generation performers.
Reflecting on his mindset, Valiant explained that he has never been preoccupied with the careers of fellow artistes. “I always focus on my own thing; I don’t focus on what other people are doing, regardless of who is doing this or that. I try to focus only on myself because everyone’s blessing is different,” he said. Asked what he represents musically and lyrically, the deejay described himself as standing for “longevity, bold, outspoken, here to stay and one of the columns in the dancehall industry,” before adding that he believes he could become the genre’s next king within the next two years.
His latest comments come after a breakthrough period that has elevated his profile both commercially and culturally. In June, Valiant and producer Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor’s hit single “Woii” emerged as one of Dancehall’s defining records of 2026, earning six No. 1 chart placements across four countries on Apple Music, YouTube and iTunes while gaining momentum throughout the Caribbean and parts of Africa. The success followed a sold-out North American tour and multiple Caribbean Music Awards nominations, reinforcing his growing reputation as one of the genre’s leading young stars.
However, the year has not been without controversy. Valiant also found himself at the centre of national debate after the release of his “Short Shorts” music video, which drew criticism from several religious leaders over its church-inspired imagery. While some condemned the visual as disrespectful, supporters defended his creative freedom, turning the release into one of the most discussed entertainment stories of the year. The polarising reactions only amplified public interest in the artiste and fuelled conversations about the evolving relationship between Dancehall, faith and artistic expression.
