Despite his ongoing public feud with Skippa, dancehall artiste Malie Donn is proving that the music is doing the talking. His latest single, Van Cleef, currently sits at No. 1 on Apple Music in Antigua and Barbuda, the Cayman Islands, Guyana and Turks and Caicos, while holding firm at No. 2 in Jamaica. The regional success comes as the deejay prepares to release his highly anticipated 20-track debut album, The Golden Child, on September 4, with a series of international performances already generating strong interest among fans.
Premiered just over a month ago, the official video for Van Cleef has already amassed more than 3.7 million views on YouTube, underlining the song’s growing popularity across the Caribbean and beyond. The single has also secured Top 10 Apple Music positions in several other territories, including Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, the British Virgin Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Anguilla, Grenada, The Bahamas, Bermuda and Dominica, highlighting the breadth of Malie Donn’s regional appeal. Elsewhere, the track has reached No. 10 on YouTube in Guyana, No. 11 in Jamaica, No. 13 in Trinidad and Tobago, and cracked Jamaica’s Deezer Top 10.
The success extends well beyond a single release. Cups Up is currently charting on Apple Music in 17 territories, including Top 5 placements in St. Lucia and Turks and Caicos, while 7:00 has also found traction across the region with chart entries in 16 countries. Meanwhile, Malie Donn’s previous project, Leak The Hard Drive, has returned to Apple Music charts in Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Lucia, Jamaica and Grenada, reflecting sustained interest in his catalogue as anticipation builds for his debut album.
Adding to the momentum, Malie Donn recently announced The Golden Child, a 20-track project featuring collaborations with Squash, Byron Messia and Antuwang, among others. The album is scheduled for release on September 4, while a new single, Holiday, is set to arrive on August 7. On YouTube Music’s Trending chart in Jamaica, the artiste currently has two songs inside the Top 20, with Sweets Man at No. 5 and Back 2 Basic at No. 19.
The chart success is also translating into growing demand on the live circuit. Interest continues to build for Malie Donn’s headline performance at Indigo at The O2 in London on September 5, one day after his album release. Before heading to the United Kingdom, the dancehall star is also scheduled to perform in New Jersey on August 16 and Hartford, Connecticut, on August 22, as he looks to capitalise on what is shaping up to be the biggest chapter of his career.
