Dancehall artiste Sikka Rymes, an affiliate of the Vybz Kartel-led Gaza camp, has opened up about his personal struggles with a poignant tribute to his late mother, Angella ‘Angie’ Jarrett. Currently incarcerated in the United Kingdom, Rymes shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, accompanied by visuals from her funeral. His passionate words revealed the depth of his grief and the challenges he faced while imprisoned far from his family. “Mommy #Angie my queen ? my ❤️ my everything,” he began, detailing his sorrow and the impact of her passing. “Words can’t express how I truly feel about everything that happen when you passed away on 03.03.23 and I put you to rest on the 03.04.23.”

The tribute was particularly emotional as Rymes highlighted the double blow of losing his mother and subsequently being incarcerated. “Two days after coming back to the UK ?? I went to prison and never got the time to reflect or grieve the passing away of you,” he wrote, expressing his ongoing struggle with not being able to visit her grave or celebrate her birthday with family. Despite his circumstances, Rymes conveyed a message of resilience, recalling his mother’s encouraging words to stay strong. “I cry because I miss you but never lose my way as they would say God never give a man more than he can bear.”

The deejay’s recent social media activity also showcased his striking new appearance, marking a significant shift from his previous image. Known for his association with Vybz Kartel and the Jamaica music scene, he now sports a short afro and a darker complexion, having discontinued his long-standing skin bleaching routine. His transformation, unveiled in a photo taken in a UK prison cell, was captioned with a defiant, “Who Jah bless no man curse,” reflecting a resilient spirit amid his legal troubles.

This personal and public turmoil follows a tumultuous period for the Portmore entertainer, compounded by his ex-wife Shy’s revelations about their relationship. In August 2023, Shy, a writer and property developer, announced her intent to divorce and disclosed Rymes’ sentencing for domestic abuse. Her candid posts, which have since been removed, detailed her struggles and the legal actions she took to protect herself. “Actions that might be overlooked in Jamaica are met with accountability in other jurisdictions,” she remarked, emphasizing the serious repercussions of domestic abuse. As Rymes navigates this complex chapter of his life, his recent tribute and transformation offer a glimpse into his journey of grief, accountability, and resilience.
