In an unprecedented revelation that shatters the veil of privacy surrounding their relationship, Shy, a writer, property developer and spouse of emerging dancehall talent Sikka Rymes, has disclosed her intention to file for divorce.

The disclosure unfolded via her now-deactivated Instagram account (@shyshy_vc), where she made a striking statement regarding Sikka Rymes’ sentencing to three and a half years in a UK prison for domestic abuse. Her candid post outlined the sentence, accompanied by a powerful message that resonated deeply with her sentiments.

Expressing her frustration, Shy proclaimed, “My soon to be ex-husband @sikka_rymes got sentenced to 3.5 years in prison today for domestic abuse.” She leveraged this situation as a broader commentary on the consequences of misconduct, especially for Jamaicans residing abroad. She passionately conveyed that actions that might be overlooked in Jamaica are met with accountability in other jurisdictions. This proclamation marked a decisive departure from the typically private stance that characterizes their relationship.

The backstory reveals that Shy and Sikka Rymes tied the knot in 2022, a fact initially left unconfirmed by the artist himself but later acknowledged in a subsequent social media posting. However, Shy shared a poignant truth—she had been striving to extricate herself from the relationship for over a year. Her open narrative painted a picture of struggles against what she referred to as “wicked ways,” expressing hope for a swift and amicable divorce.

Shy revealed further layers of her experience, unveiling that she secured an indefinite restraining order against Sikka Rymes. This legal recourse granted her protection from any form of direct or indirect contact, underpinning her resolve to move forward independently. The post also detailed her financial support for Sikka Rymes’ extravagant lifestyle. She recounted a history of expenses and investments that, in her perspective, were made under false pretences.

In response to this revelation, Shy’s openness sparked discussions among social media users. While some empathized with her ordeal, others speculated whether her statements might be a publicity manoeuvre. Amidst these interpretations, Shy remained resolute in her desire to shed light on the crucial issue of domestic abuse. She courageously used her platform to amplify her message, denouncing the hidden complexity behind individuals’ public facades.
