On Friday, emerging dancehall artist Kemar Highcon released a new single titled “Grand Theft Auto” with fellow Jamaican entertainers Teejay and Rvssian.
The joint effort featured on the Head Concussion Records imprint appears to make light of Highcon’s current legal woes after he was arrested and charged with Grand Theft Auto in Florida last month. In the song, he raps, “Gyal a seh she love mi mugshot…”. The accompanying impish music video shot in the U.S. also features the trio.
Highcon’s legal woes stem from an arrest on May 5th in Broward County, Florida, where he was accused of unlawfully possessing someone else’s property. He was taken into custody by Margate police and released on a $500 bond. The statute he was charged under pertains to the theft of an automobile valued between $750 and $20,000, which can result in a third-degree felony charge, five years imprisonment, and a maximum fine of $5,000.
The dancehall artiste has not directly or publicly commented on the situation, but his arrest has sparked mixed reactions among dancehall fans and the general public.
Kemar Highcon is best known for his 2018 hit single “So Saucy,” which aided him in gaining prominence throughout the diaspora.
