Key Witness in Music Producer Shab Don’s Triple-Murder Case Faces Double-Murder Trial in the U.S. This November
Jahreme 'J-Man' Shelton

Jahreme ‘J-Man’ Shelton, an associate of Dancehall artiste Squash whom prosecutors intend to call as a key overseas witness in the high-profile triple-murder case against music producer Linval ‘Shab Don’ Thompson, is now preparing to stand trial in Florida on charges stemming from a fatal double shooting. Shelton, who survived the 2022 Rose Heights massacre that claimed three lives, is scheduled to appear before a Broward County jury on November 9, placing him at the centre of two of the most closely watched criminal cases on opposite sides of the Caribbean.

The latest development comes months after Jamaica’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions successfully applied for two overseas witnesses to testify via video link in the case against Thompson and his co-accused, Tajay ‘Fat Head’ Clarke. Shelton, who remains behind bars in the United States without bond after pleading not guilty, is one of those witnesses. Prosecutors have maintained that his testimony is material to the Jamaican case, although logistical and legal hurdles surrounding his incarceration have contributed to repeated delays in the proceedings. Thompson and Clarke are facing charges stemming from the fatal shooting at a birthday party on Marl Road in Rose Heights, St James, on May 25, 2022, where Chamario ‘Chippy’ Calvin, Chadwell ‘Bomb Brain’ Frazer and Toniann ‘Too Fly’ Reid were killed, while Shelton and another person were injured.

Shelton’s own criminal case centres on a deadly shooting in Lauderhill, Florida, on October 19, 2022. According to investigators, police responding to reports of sustained gunfire outside the Blueberry Hill Condominiums found Dwayne ‘Muscle Man’ Francis and Jeff ‘FordLawd’ Murray suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both men died at the scene. Court documents allege that surveillance footage, witness statements, hospital records and forensic evidence link Shelton to the incident. Authorities also allege he was wounded during the exchange before later returning to the scene. While he was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm, current Broward County jail records describe the principal offences as “murder dangerous depraved without premeditation”, although court filings continue to reference the original first-degree murder charges.

The Florida investigation drew widespread attention in Jamaica after investigators suggested the killings were connected to the same violent St James gang feud that authorities say spilled into South Florida. Those concerns echoed statements previously made by senior Jamaica Constabulary Force officials, who warned that the conflict had extended beyond Jamaica’s borders. Shelton was also publicly seen with incarcerated dancehall artiste Squash after leaving Jamaica following the Rose Heights attack, further drawing public interest to the case. Meanwhile, Broward County court records show Shelton’s trial is set to begin with jury selection on November 9 before Circuit Judge Bernard I. Bober. Unless the matter is adjourned again, the proceedings are expected to unfold while Jamaican prosecutors continue pursuing his evidence in the Shab Don murder trial, creating the extraordinary scenario of a murder accused simultaneously serving as a key prosecution witness in one of Jamaica’s most closely watched criminal cases.
