The reggae community is in mourning following the passing of Jamaican artist Ryan “Kush” Riley, son of legendary singer Jimmy Riley and younger brother to Tarrus Riley. Kush, 38, passed away, with the news being shared by his brother Tarrus in a heartfelt Instagram post. “Rest Ez ?Ryan Only Jah Knws?,” he wrote, expressing the deep pain of losing his sibling. He continued, “Sleepless Days n Restless Nights Trying to make it make sense… My Younger Brother Ryan that many of u know and Love worldwide has made his Transition and is no longer here with us in the Flesh.” Tarrus praised his brother for living life authentically, calling him a “warrior” and asking for divine guidance to grant him “perfect peace.”

While Kush Riley’s career did not reach the heights of his father or brother, he was determined to make his own mark in the music world. In a 2019 interview, he emphasized his desire to be recognized as an individual artist. “I want to be known as Kush Riley. I want to build my own brand,” he explained. He further expressed the importance of staying true to himself, saying, “I won’t let the expectations of people dictate how I do this music thing.” His music, including songs like “Old Fashion,” “What A Body,“ and “Bring It,“ reflected his unique sound and message of positivity, resonating with fans both locally and internationally.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across the reggae and dancehall industry. Fellow artist Konshens shared his sorrow, writing, “Rip mi bad fam Kush. Way too soon but what tomorrow may bring nobody don’t know,“ while Wayne Wonder offered his condolences, saying, “Condolences to you my bro and the entire family ????! Sleep Easy Youth ?️.“ Other prominent figures such as Popcaan, Bounty Killer, Romain Virgo and Gramps Morgan also expressed their sympathy. This loss comes as another heartbreaking moment for the Riley family, who has endured the passing of both Jimmy Riley in 2016 and Jaffa Joy Riley Douglas in 2021.
