Having made his debut on the dancehall scene over two decades ago with “Strictly Physical” featuring Tami Chynn, Sanjay has since transformed into a multifaceted entertainer, broadcaster, and entrepreneur.
Over the years, he’s collaborated with a diverse array of reggae and dancehall luminaries, including Vybz Kartel, Tanya Stephens, Beenie Man, Alaine, Luciano, Demarco, Tifa, Cecile and Aidonia, among many others.
Despite his extensive journey, Sanjay, who also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, is now poised to unveil his debut album, “Man Of My Word.” This 10-track collection draws its name from his initial hit song on the Guardian Angel riddim, produced by the late Arif Cooper. Set for release on Saturday, September 23, the album delves into the intricate nuances of love, encapsulating stories of both love discovered and love lost. It’s a concept album where each song explores the complexities of relationships.
Originally titled “Lonely Hands, Lonely Feet, Lonely Heart, Lonely Beat,” the album underwent a name change guided by accomplished musician Mikey Bennett, who felt the original title might be too niche. Sanjay embraced this counsel, resulting in the current title. Those who have been privy to a sneak peek of the project describe its sound as ‘EMO Dancehall,’ with each track offering a profound emotional and musical experience rooted in Dancehall and Reggae undertones.
Featuring notable collaborations with Alaine, Tara Harrison, and Meera, the album concludes with a remake of Sanjay’s original classic, providing a poignant reflection on unfulfilled promises and abandoned dreams. “Man of My Word” offers an uncommonly emotional and vulnerable perspective from a Jamaican Dancehall artiste.
Upon release, the album will be accessible via all major digital and streaming platforms, with plans to enable purchases via his official website, sanjayisthename.com.
