Veteran reggae crooner Luciano has extended a heartfelt apology to Lloyd Stanbury, the prominent entertainment attorney, following a recent episode where he erroneously accused Stanbury of deceptive practices concerning a four-album contract signed with VP Records.
In a candid conversation with I Never Knew TV, Luciano openly voiced his regret over not having meticulously reviewed the contract brokered over two decades ago before appending his signature, attributing this lapse to his hectic schedule at the time and his belief in Stanbury, whom he considered a fellow Rastafarian and assumed had his vested interests at heart. At the same time, Luciano implied that Stanbury, whom he mistakenly believed represented VP Records, had tacitly encouraged him to sign the contract without scrutiny.
In response, Stanbury took to Instagram to vehemently deny these allegations, clarifying that he had never acted as Luciano’s legal representative or as an attorney for VP Records. Instead, his role was confined to providing a location for the contract signing, as Luciano had independently negotiated the terms with the record company. Stanbury also cautioned Luciano about the potential legal consequences of his defamatory statements.
Following Stanbury’s statement, Luciano took a formative step by publicly acknowledging his mistake in a video statement. In the heartfelt message, he clarified that Stanbury was not responsible for drafting the 2001 contract or legally representing either party but had merely facilitated the contract signing at his office. Luciano sincerely apologised to Stanbury and appealed to his fans for understanding as he navigated this challenging situation.
