Veteran dancehall artist Ojukwu Simpson, better known as Ninja Kid, is expanding his musical endeavours with the launch of his own record label, Jukie Records, and the upcoming release of his rhythm compilation, the “Guup Riddim”.Â
The debut project will feature contributions from notable dancehall heavyweights Demarco, Charly Black, and Mr Vegas, among others. When asked about what fans can expect from the project, Ninja Kid declared,Â
“Just mad vibes; di riddim have a energy dat people will love.”
Ninja Kid, recognized by his peers not only musically but also as one of the most renowned chefs in dancehall, has always harboured the ambition to give back to the music industry. He aims to contribute not only through his own music and culinary skills but also by providing a platform for his contemporaries, both established and emerging.Â
“Over the years, I have witnessed many people rise to stardom in the music industry, but some of them fail to give back or support the younger generation. Regardless of my own success, I still want to play my part, which is why I decided to start this label and give opportunities to other artists,” he told Prism Marketing Consultants.
Having enjoyed a successful stint in the 1990s with hits like “Mate A Talk,” “Boom Bye Bye,” and “Request Di Long Thing,” Ninja Kid is no stranger to the role of music producer. Although not officially credited, he has been instrumental in shaping numerous hits for his peers over the years. He considers this new venture as an extension of his creative process, stating that it allows him to continue contributing to the industry in a meaningful way.
