Jamaican dancehall artiste Spice is set to be honoured on May 5 at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Hotel North in South Florida.
Vice Mayor Marlon D Bolton of the City of Tamarac, with the support of the Consul General of Jamaica, Oliver Mair, and 15 other South Florida elected officials, will be recognising the dancehall songstress for her work in music and entertainment.
Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, will deliver the keynote speech. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Broward Vision PAC.
Spice expressed her gratitude for being awarded “The Key to the Region of Florida” and for recognising Jamaican culture. She has long advocated for women’s rights and empowerment and launched the Grace Hamilton Women’s Empowerment Foundation to provide resources like scholarships and mentoring opportunities for women.
The event will feature performances from comedian Julie Mango, violist Steven Avi, saxophonist Corey Jones, and magician Vladi Lukan. Vice Mayor Bolton has made significant efforts to promote Jamaican culture in South Florida as the first black elected official in Tamarac City.
