Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea is assembling an international musical lineup for her upcoming eight-track EP, Catalyst, bringing together Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Asake, dancehall heavyweight Vybz Kartel and Florida rapper Loe Shimmy ahead of its November 6 release. Among the project’s biggest talking points is “Talk To Me Nuh”, which reunites Shenseea and Kartel nearly a decade after their 2016 collaboration “Loodi”. With Asake appearing on “Playtime” and Loe Shimmy joining her on “Private”, the Jamaican star is positioning her latest project at the intersection of dancehall, Afrobeats and hip-hop.
The EP’s eight-song tracklist also includes “Vulnerability”, “Danger”, “Garden”, “Body Language” and “2 Face Gyal”. Its announcement follows Shenseea’s recent revelation that she had completed a new project, with the official title, artwork and tracklist now giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect. The Asake collaboration is particularly notable, bringing one of Nigeria’s prominent Afrobeats performers into Shenseea’s expanding catalogue of international partnerships, while Loe Shimmy adds a contemporary American hip-hop connection.
Meanwhile, the reunion with Vybz Kartel revisits an important chapter in Shenseea’s early career. Their 2016 collaboration “Loodi” helped introduce her to a wider dancehall audience, making “Talk To Me Nuh” one of the EP’s most anticipated tracks. The project also follows an active year for Shenseea, who released “Brucksweat” in July, “Tightness” on September 4 and the introspective “Vulnerability” on September 25. She also collaborated with Valiant and Rvssian on “My Turn” and Haitian-French singer Joé Dwèt Filé on “I Don’t Know”.
Catalyst will be Shenseea’s first major project since her Grammy-nominated sophomore album, Never Gets Late Here, released in May 2024. That 14-track project featured Coi Leray, Anitta, Wizkid, Masicka, Di Genius and Prettyboy D-O, while her debut album, ALPHA, arrived in March 2022 with appearances from Megan Thee Stallion and Tyga. As she continues to explore sounds beyond traditional dancehall, Catalyst offers another opportunity to strengthen her international profile while maintaining her Jamaican musical identity. With three distinct guest appearances and a reunion nearly ten years in the making, attention now turns to November 6 and the reception of Shenseea’s latest body of work.
