Despite widespread hopes that his third studio album, Forever Reign, could earn him a Grammy nomination, Masicka says awards were never the driving force behind the project. Speaking on International Talk with DJ Norie and Nefatari after the album’s release, the Dancehall star said his priority remains putting out the best possible music and “winning people”, viewing any trophies or major achievements as a welcome result rather than the ultimate goal.

Asked whether he was gunning for a Grammy with Forever Reign, Masicka pushed back against the idea that awards drive his creative process. “Not necessarily,” he said. “We just like to do the work and whatever come with it, just come with it. But we always hope high and we try to put out the best work.” He added that while he would be grateful for any achievements, he does not make an album thinking about the awards he wants to win.

Instead, the Genna deejay says his biggest ambition is to connect with listeners. “We just want to win people,” Masicka explained, stressing that keeping his fans entertained remains central to his approach. His comments come after years of fans arguing that his albums deserve greater recognition, particularly as his international profile continues to grow.

Since its release, the 17-track Forever Reign has strengthened Masicka’s global momentum, delivering the highest debut of 2026 for a Jamaican Dancehall act on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The album’s performance has also fuelled renewed conversations about his standing among Dancehall’s leading contemporary stars, while his catalogue continues to perform strongly across Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.

For Masicka, the message is simple: make the strongest music possible, connect with the people and let the accolades take care of themselves. With Forever Reign now released and continuing to expand his international reach, the Grammy debate may continue whether he is actively chasing the trophy or not.
