Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel has revealed that the title of his album God and Time was born out of one of the darkest and most transformative periods of his life. Speaking in an emotional video shared on Instagram, the deejay explained that the phrase “God and time” came from repeated conversations with his lawyer, Isat Buchanan, during his 13-year legal battle. According to Kartel, the words eventually became a personal philosophy that carried him through years of uncertainty, frustration, and waiting.
Recalling the difficult period, Kartel said there were moments when impatience and frustration threatened to overwhelm him as he navigated the lengthy court process. However, Buchanan would constantly remind him, “Teacher easy, remember God and time, God and time.” The dancehall superstar explained that hearing the phrase repeatedly slowly reshaped his mindset and taught him the value of patience, faith, and resilience. “It was something that he said so much that it finally put me in the mindset to just humble, relax, focus, believe, have faith, and wait,” Kartel shared.
The artiste also reflected on the emotional weight of enduring more than a decade behind bars while fighting to overturn his conviction. “Patience is a virtue,” he said, before adding, “13 years, 13 hard years, but look at us now, victorious.” The statement quickly resonated with fans online, many of whom viewed the album title as a powerful symbol of survival and triumph after adversity. Kartel further compared the experience to a well-known Caribbean saying: “The hotter the battle, the sweeter the victory.”
Meanwhile, the revelation has added a deeper layer of meaning to God and Time, with fans now viewing the project not just as another release from the self-proclaimed Worl’ Boss, but as a reflection of his personal journey through hardship, endurance, and redemption. As Kartel continues his post-prison comeback and global resurgence, the story behind the album title is likely to further strengthen the emotional connection between the dancehall star and his supporters worldwide.
