After 73 days in U.S. immigration detention, dancehall artiste Chronic Law is turning a turbulent chapter into music with his upcoming EP I.C.E (Inside Cold & Empty), a seven-track project rooted in survival, faith, and self-reflection. The deejay was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Florida on January 12, 2026, a development that sparked intense conversation across the Caribbean entertainment landscape. He was released without charge on March 26, 2026, and has since returned to music with renewed focus and urgency.

The project was largely developed during his period in custody, with Chronic Law continuing to write while navigating the emotional strain of the situation. After his release, he immediately linked with Grammy-winning producer Notnice to finalise the record, shaping a body of work built from pre-written lyrics, selected rhythms, and lived experience. The EP explores themes of isolation, betrayal, endurance, and spiritual grounding, reflecting both the internal and external pressures he faced.

Chronic Law described the experience as a defining test of faith and loyalty. “Honestly, loyalty has always been something I struggled with, so going through that 73-day detention made me even more aware and, at times, more guarded. Everybody had their own opinions and drew their own conclusions, but for me, it became a real test, who truly believes in God, and who truly believes in me. Through it all, I know God was by my side,” he said. “I had to lean on Him, because without that faith, things could’ve gone a completely different direction.”

He added that the EP was born directly from that mindset, saying it reflects lessons about trust, faith, and resilience. “I.C.E (Inside Cold & Empty) came straight from that place. It was written during detention to show people that no matter the situation, the obstacles, or the fight you’re facing, you have to stay solid. You can’t lose faith. At the end of the day, your trust belongs with God,” he explained.

Notnice, speaking with Prism Marketing Consultants on the production process, revealed that much of the creative foundation had already been established before he fully stepped in. “From a production standpoint, the EP was already done. Chronic Law was in jail, and he and Bashy spent each day on the phone, Bashy playing the riddims while Chronic Law was on the other end of the line penning his lyrics. So everything was done: beats were selected and songs were already written. I came into the project to just refine the beats and add my Midas touch. However, I ended up changing some of the tracks, redoing beats, adding production to each, and doing the final mixing and mastering,” he explained.

He further emphasised that preserving authenticity was central to his approach. “It was important not to lose the emotion that was already there. My role was to enhance it sonically while keeping the rawness intact so people can feel exactly what he went through,” Notnice added.

Set for release on April 24, 2026, with the lead single “Like Samson” scheduled for April 17 via ONErpm, I.C.E (Inside Cold & Empty) arrives as a pivotal moment in Chronic Law’s career. In a genre increasingly shaped by lived experience and global reach, the project stands as a stark reminder that some of dancehall’s most powerful stories are not imagined, but endured.
