Queen Ifrica has returned to the reggae charts with her fourth studio album, Breath of Life, which debuted at No. 10 on the U.S. iTunes Reggae Albums Chart following its release on Friday, August 14. The 13-track project, released through Nuh Rush Records/Tuff Gong International, brings together multiple generations of Jamaican music and features production from Stephen “Ragga” Marley and longtime collaborator Junior Brown (IAmNuhRush). The strong chart entry comes ahead of Ifrica’s August 25 album-release performance at London’s Jazz Cafe.
Musically, Breath of Life is rooted in one-drop reggae while exploring themes of spirituality, love, social consciousness, and everyday life. The title track, produced by Stephen Marley, opens the album with a reflective tone that sets the foundation for its blend of roots messages and more personal moments. Standout tracks include “Speechless,” “Pelican,” “Spoonful,” “Bad Girl,” “My Highgrade,” “Excellent Jah,” “Weeping Willow,” and “Change the World,” alongside earlier singles “Mom Like Me” and “Lanton (Lantern).”
A highlight of the project is “New Version Of Me,” which features Ifrica’s children, Tanzie and Imeru Tafari, adding a generational layer to the album. Production is led primarily by Junior Brown, with additional contributions from Colin “Bulby” York and Jason “j-Vibe” Farmer, giving the project a strong bass-driven reggae foundation.
Ifrica described the recording process as a deeply fulfilling experience, expressing gratitude for the energy behind the project and her hope that the music brings comfort and joy to listeners. With Breath of Life now in the U.S. iTunes Reggae Top 10 and a major London performance ahead, the album marks a significant and confident return for the reggae veteran.
