‘Never Doubt Yourself’: Valiant Responds to Critics as Social Media Erupts Over His ‘Dancehall Column’ and ‘King’ Remarks

Dancehall star Valiant has responded to critics after social media erupted over his bold claim that he is “one of the columns” of the genre and could become dancehall’s next king within two years. The remarks, made during an interview with Reggaeville following his performance at Germany’s Summerjam festival, triggered scores of reactions ranging from praise and encouragement to humour and sharp criticism, with many fans insisting that the “King” title can only be earned through longevity and cultural impact. As the debate intensified, Valiant stood firm, posting a motivational message declaring, “No matter how many people doubt you, never doubt yourself.”

During the interview, Valiant explained that he remains focused on his own journey rather than comparing himself with other artistes. “I always focus on my thing, mi nuh too medz people thing. Me nuh medz who a do this and who a do that. Me always medz my thing because everybody blessing different,” he said. Asked what he stands for musically and lyrically, the deejay replied, “Longevity, bold, outspoken, here to stay and one of the columns in the dancehall industry,” before adding that “maybe within the next two years” he could become the new king of dancehall. The confident prediction quickly spread across social media, becoming one of the week’s biggest talking points among dancehall fans.

Reaction online proved deeply divided. Some supporters applauded Valiant’s ambition, arguing that confidence has always been a cornerstone of dancehall culture. “Affi believe inna yuhself,” wrote one supporter, while another added, “Not two years… but him have the potential! Dawg a do the work, no joke.” Others took a more measured approach, suggesting that becoming “King” is ultimately a title bestowed by the fans and the culture rather than claimed by an individual. Several commenters acknowledged his recent success but argued that consistency, longevity and a broader catalogue of hits would determine whether he eventually reaches that level.

Not everyone was convinced. Critics questioned whether Valiant had yet earned the status of being one of dancehall’s “columns”, with some comparing his ambitions to the legacies of established figures such as Vybz Kartel and Sean Paul. Others responded with humour, memes and playful jabs, while a number of commenters dismissed the prediction altogether. Despite the criticism, the discussion kept Valiant firmly at the centre of online conversation, once again demonstrating his ability to dominate headlines beyond the music itself.

In response to the growing backlash, Valiant shared a motivational message across social media, writing: “NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE DOUBT YOU, NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF: Their opinions are just noise. Your belief in yourself is the fuel that will keep you moving forward. Keep trusting the process, even when others can’t see your vision.” The post was widely interpreted as a response to the debate surrounding his remarks and reinforced the mindset he expressed during the interview. With chart success, international performances and no shortage of public discussion behind him, Valiant appears determined to let his career, rather than the criticism, shape the next chapter of his journey.
