The Adidja Palmer Foundation is urging Jamaicans and supporters worldwide to stay on high alert after discovering a number of fake social media accounts claiming to collect donations on behalf of the organisation for Hurricane Melissa relief. The warning comes as the foundation—closely linked to dancehall star Vybz Kartel—continues to coordinate its official recovery initiatives with a strong emphasis on transparency and accountability.

According to the foundation, no donation channels have been opened as yet. The decision, it says, is deliberate, ensuring that when funds and supplies are accepted, they will be managed ethically and with full oversight. However, unauthorised individuals have already created pages using the foundation’s name, branding, and even official footage to trick well-meaning donors eager to support families affected by the deadly storm. The AP Foundation described the situation as “profoundly disturbing”, noting that scammers are exploiting public goodwill at a time when many Jamaicans are still trying to rebuild.

In its public advisory, the foundation called on supporters to practise due diligence before contributing to any campaign. They encouraged donors to verify information through Vybz Kartel’s official page, the foundation’s own Instagram account, or individuals with a direct and trusted link to the cause. They further recommended checking reputable news sources, official statements, and certified donation platforms to ensure the accuracy of details such as bank accounts and fundraising portals.

As the country continues its relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa, the Adidja Palmer Foundation says it remains committed to responsible action and will release official donation information soon. For now, they’re asking the public to stay vigilant—and help stop scammers from preying on those simply trying to make a difference.
