Donations to Jamaica’s official Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund are closing in on the $1 million USD mark, as support pours in from home and abroad to help rebuild communities devastated by the recent storm. According to Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, contributions made through the government’s official relief portal — supportjamaica.gov.jm — had reached $728,000 USD and $38 million JMD as of Sunday night, November 2.

“We’re getting to the $1 million USD mark on that site,” Dr. Morris Dixon announced during a special press briefing at Jamaica House on Monday, November 3. She also revealed that the website will soon feature a live donation tracker, allowing the public to see updated totals in real-time.

The funds raised will support critical areas such as emergency relief, housing reconstruction, healthcare assistance, and economic recovery — all key components of the government’s plan to strengthen national resilience in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Contributions can also be made through authorised bank accounts or via the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).

In the wake of widespread destruction, the government’s coordinated response has drawn partnerships with the private sector, international donors, and local agencies to fast-track aid distribution and rebuilding. As Dr. Morris Dixon emphasized, the effort is not just about immediate relief but ensuring that Jamaica rebuilds stronger for the future.

With the fund steadily rising and the portal’s new transparency features set to launch soon, public confidence in the national recovery mission continues to grow — a powerful testament to Jamaicans’ unity in times of crisis.
