The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has officially passed a resolution to present gospel icon Priscilla Marie Love, widely known as CeCe Winans, with the key to the city of Kingston in honour of her enduring musical, spiritual, and humanitarian impact on the Jamaican people. The historic decision, spearheaded by Councillor Waynette Strachan-Nelson of the Hagley Park Division, recognises Winans as more than just a musical legend—it honours her as a “spiritual force” who has profoundly influenced the nation’s emotional and cultural landscape.

“For Jamaicans, CeCe is not just a celebrated artiste,” said Strachan-Nelson. “She is a humanitarian, a cultural icon, a voice we have leaned on during our most intimate moments. Her music has crossed borders and generations, but it has always found a home here.” Songs like Goodness of God have become ubiquitous across the island, echoing from Sunday worship services to taxi routes, hospitals, political platforms, and city streets.

With a career spanning decades, 17 Grammy Awards, and over 17 million records sold, Winans stands as the most awarded female gospel artiste of all time. Her artistry, however, goes beyond accolades. The KSAMC resolution applauds her ability to bridge denominational and social divides, noting that her voice unites listeners in “the language of spirit, survival, and praise,” regardless of class or creed.

In addition to her musical influence, Winans has also demonstrated a strong commitment to global service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she joined a global relief effort that raised funds for struggling families in more than seven countries. “Her influence enters schools, shelters, and slums, often without a camera in sight,” Strachan-Nelson noted, underscoring the depth of Winans’ quiet, consistent advocacy for those in need.

CeCe Winans is set to bring her More Than This World tour to the East Lawns of King’s House on August 1. The Kingston stop will raise funds for five Jamaican charities, including the Bustamante Hospital for Children’s Ophthalmology Department and the Yadel Home for Children. “In one night, CeCe will be a blessing to thousands across Jamaica,” Strachan-Nelson concluded. “She has already opened doors for others—it is only fitting that the city of Kingston now opens its doors to her.”
