Coming on the heels of a powerful performance in the twin-island republic of Trinidad & Tobago, Grammy Award-winning reggae singer Gramps Morgan has achieved a new milestone in his celebrated career — earning his very first platinum plaque. The accolade commemorates over one million units sold of Let’s Do It Again, a reggae love ballad performed by Hawaiian singer J Boog, produced by Don Corleon Records and Wash House Music Inc. Morgan also produced several tracks on the album.  The song, beloved for its smooth, romantic groove and rootsy reggae cadence, has become a fan favourite since its release and now stands as a testament to Gramps’ enduring influence on the global reggae scene.

The historic moment, which Gramps describes as “incredible” and “humbling,” adds to the legacy of Morgan Heritage — the family band he co-founded with his siblings, including the late Peetah Morgan. “I also want to dedicate the plaque to Morgan Heritage and my fallen brother Peetah, my label Dada Son Entertainment, and my publicist Sean ‘Contractor’ Edwards,” he shared. Reflecting on the song’s origins, Gramps recounted how he introduced J Boog to local powerhouse producer Don Corleon during a tour, which eventually led them to record in Jamaica at the iconic Bobby Digital’s studio. “Many chances were taken bringing a Hawaiian artist to Jamaica, but it was an incredible experience,” he said in an interview with the Jamaica STAR.

Morgan Heritage has long been a cornerstone of modern roots reggae, winning the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2016 with Strictly Roots and earning numerous accolades over their three-decade career. Their fusion of traditional reggae rhythms with modern influences has cemented their place as cultural ambassadors of the genre. According to Billboard and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), fewer than 10 reggae singles by non-Jamaican artists have ever gone platinum in the U.S., making Let’s Do It Again a rare gem and a significant cross-cultural achievement.

Gramps’ recent appearance at the Tobago Rhythm & Soul Festival on April 20, 2025, further reminded fans of his magnetic presence and enduring relevance. Performing on the Fusion Stage at the Parade Grounds, he delivered a set that blended energy, soul, and Caribbean pride. Now, with this platinum accolade under his belt and a heart full of gratitude, Gramps Morgan continues to honour his roots while pushing reggae forward on the global stage.
