In the wake of a Sunday morning accident involving Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, popular dancehall artiste Valiant has been taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for unpaid traffic tickets. The incident, which left Minister Tufton with a broken wrist, has attracted significant media attention, particularly after initial reports suggested Valiant was the driver responsible for the collision.
Following the incident, a routine check of Valiant’s license revealed the outstanding warrant. Real name Raheem Bowes, Valiant was subsequently arrested on Tuesday. Initially, the artiste denied the reports in a social media comment, stating, “Kmft bredda me ina me bed a watch games of throne wtf this @tvjnews get real facts.” However, his claim was quickly refuted when the media outlet released a video of him emerging from the Traffic Court in Kingston.
The video, showing Valiant interacting with the news team while several police personnel could be seen within proximity, confirmed the detention and subsequent court appearance. “Dancehall entertainer Valiant waves to our camera as he leaves the Traffic Court this afternoon,” read the caption, solidifying the narrative of the day’s events and adding another layer to the unfolding saga involving the prominent artiste and the high-ranking government official.
Recounting the ordeal, Minister Tufton, who was cycling along Charlemont Avenue in St. Andrew when he was struck, took to social media to clarify the situation. “Well, this Sunday wasn’t planned! Took a fall this morning on my bicycle. Counting myself very lucky because it could have been worse!! Thanks to God and to all who have me in their prayers and sent messages,” he shared. Tufton expressed gratitude for Valiant’s immediate assistance, adding, “Also, thanks to Valiant who was involved, for rushing me to UHWI, and to the team of Doctors and Nurses who are currently attending to me.”
