Fresh from an energizing stint in Dominica, Spanish Town deejay Govana is poised to ignite the dancehall scene again with his upcoming album, Legacy. Earlier this week, the ‘Likkle Bit A Money’ hitmaker unveiled the official cover art and release date for the eagerly anticipated project via Instagram.
Scheduled to officially drop on June 28, Legacy’s cover art is set against a striking matte black and green backdrop. It features a photograph of Govana’s two sons, shirtless and adorned with jewellery, with the artist’s name and album title superimposed above their heads. The accompanying caption, “LEGACY ..JUNE 28 ..FROM MI SOUL TO THE STREETS..GIVE THANX! PRESAVE NOW,” has fans buzzing with excitement.
The lead-up to Legacy has been meticulously crafted, building on the momentum from Govana’s recent releases. On May 10, he premiered the album’s second single, ‘Dat Mi Seh,’ featuring compatriot Skeng. The track, accompanied by a visually captivating video directed by Now or Never, immerses viewers in a covert casino setting where high-stakes poker games and intense drama unfold. The narrative, featuring a cameo by social media personality Bawda Cat, follows Govana and Skeng on a suspenseful quest, adding to the anticipation surrounding the album.
The success of its lead single, ‘Pull Over,’ featuring Jada Kingdom, has further fueled the buzz around Legacy. Since its debut two months ago, the song has amassed over 1.5 million views on YouTube, lauded for its infectious energy and provocative lyrics. Produced by Raheef Muzik Group and Chimney Records, ‘Pull Over‘ has helped cement Govana’s reputation as a dynamic force in the dancehall genre.
Legacy marks a significant chapter in Govana’s musical journey, following his acclaimed five-track EP, God N Gun, released in 2022, and his seminal fourteen-track opus, HAMANTS (Human And Monsters Are Not The Same), in 2020.
