As September approaches, prominent dancehall star Demarco is gearing up for a significant engagement in New York City next month.
The singjay, whose real name is Collin Edwards, is slated to headline the Pre-Central American Independence Celebrations scheduled for September 8 in the Bronx. Joining him on stage will be the popular Garifuna band Libaña Maraza.
Demarco will represent the reggae-dancehall genre in this upcoming event, while Libaña Maraza will showcase the vibrant Garifuna music. Garifuna music is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of the Garifuna people, an Afro-indigenous community with origins in the Caribbean and Central America. Descendants of enslaved Africans intermingling with Arawak and Carib indigenous groups, the Garifuna have developed a unique musical genre that reflects their history, identity, and way of life.
Presently in Jamaica on professional commitments, Demarco recently filmed two new music videos and recorded several singles, including collaborations with emerging artist N’Hance and dancehall frontrunner Chronic Law. This Friday, the artist is set to unveil a fresh music video titled “We Did It,” featuring embattled deejay Jahshii. Filmed in Toronto, Canada, the visual will premiere via Demarco’s official YouTube channel. This follows the recent release of his latest single, “We Start It,” a collaborative effort with 10Tik.
Furthermore, Demarco’s music continues to gain substantial airplay and popularity within the dancehall community. Tracks like “Jancrow,” “Charge Fi Yuh,” and the provocative female-oriented anthem “Mix Parts” (produced by Romeich Entertainment) are receiving premium attention on both the airwaves and the social scene.
