Veteran dancehall artist Mad Cobra has been released on bail from the Florence County Detention Center in South Carolina following his arrest on drug and firearm possession charges during a traffic stop.
The 55-year-old Jamaican entertainer, whose real name is Ewart Everton Brown, had his surety bond set at U$125,000, of which U$5,000 was for possessing a weapon during a violent crime and U$120,000 for trafficking cocaine.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when Deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office stopped a Black BMW SUV for speeding on Interstate 95. During the stop, officers developed reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and requested to search the vehicle. The search uncovered two (2) kilos of cocaine and a Beretta 9mm pistol.
Facing such serious charges, Mad Cobra could potentially be sentenced to a lengthy prison term if found guilty. South Carolina has strict laws concerning the distribution of large amounts of cocaine, with possession of more than 400 grams carrying penalties of up to U$200,000 in fines and 25-30 years in prison.
The case has drawn significant attention, and the reggae-dancehall community awaits further developments as the legal process unfolds.
