After enduring months of negative headlines related to her dancehall peers, former dancehall queen-turned-religious Minister Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw, has finally received a reason to celebrate.
Her collaboration with No Doubt on the track “Underneath It All” has recently achieved Platinum certification in the United States, 22 years after its initial release.
“Underneath It All” brought together the talents of Lady Saw, Gwen Stefani of No Doubt, and Jamaican band Sly & Robbie, blending various genres such as reggae, pop, UK, R&B, and rock. The song has gained renewed attention recently and was certified Gold in 2021.
As a Grammy award-winning song, “Underneath It All” holds the distinction of being the highest-charting and most-streamed song in Marion Hall’s career, as well as No Doubt’s highest-charting US single. It won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 46th Grammy Awards.
Upon its release, the track reached the No. 3 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and enjoyed significant popularity among reggae and pop audiences in the United Kingdom. Its music video has garnered over 53 million views on YouTube.
