Embattled entertainer Teejay currently embroiled in a musical spat with disc jock and producer DJ Mac demonstrated his support for Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls last week by pledging to donate J$500,000 to the national team during their send-off reception ahead of their departure for the Vitality Netball World Cup in South Africa.
Held at the Knutsford Court Hotel, the event hosted by Minister of Sports, Youth, Culture and Gender Olivia “Babsy” Grange featured the Sunshine Girls joining Teejay on stage for the popular ‘Drift‘ dance. Following his performance, the Montegonian announced the generous donation through his Timoy Jones Foundation, expressing his commitment to progress and the culture.
“Once it is progress, I will always pledge my part and be a part of progress. And for the Sunshine Girls to reach where they are right now, that’s progress.” He stated.
Fellow entertainer Ding Dong was also present and contributed to the campaign by spontaneously donating U$600 (J$93,000).
The Sunshine Girls, a 12-member unit, are set to compete in the 16th Vitality Netball 6 World Cup. The support from both entertainers was warmly received by the team, who expressed their gratitude for the contributions to their mission.
In related news, on August 27, Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston and dancehall top picks Teejay and Ding Dong will join American R&B superstar Chris Brown for his “Under The Influence” concert at the National Stadium in Kingston. On Friday, Ryan Burke, founder and CEO of The Vew Empire, made the announcement during the BZR Weekend launch event at the AC Hotel in Kingston.
