In an unexpected move, Dancehall Queen Spice has announced that she will no longer be performing at Groovin’ In The Park 2023, leaving fans disappointed.
In a statement released Monday night, Spice expressed deep regret and apologised to her loyal supporters eagerly anticipating her performance at the event. She also extended the courtesy to the organisers, acknowledging their professionalism throughout the process.
Spice cited multiple reasons beyond her control for this decision but took full accountability. Despite her absence, she expressed confidence in the original lineup and anticipated a successful event. The statement ended with a heartfelt message to fans, declaring her love for them and reaffirming her title as the “Queen of Dancehall.”
Groovin’ In The Park, set to return after a five-year hiatus, aims to deliver a strong dancehall experience for its audience. Promoter Chris Roberts had described Spice’s inclusion to the lineup as a “big, big deal.” Scheduled for June 25 at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York, the event will feature renowned artists Marion Hall, Tarrus Riley, Cham, Wayne Wonder, Frisco Kid, and soul singer Charlie “Uncle Charlie” Wilson.
Groovin’ In The Park has a rich history of hosting diverse acts from various genres over the past decade. From dancehall and reggae legends Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Busy Signal, and Capleton to international stars Air Supply, Michael Bolton, Babyface, and R Kelly, the event consistently attracts a large audience of over 25,000 fans, predominantly Caribbean nationals residing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Philadelphia, and Toronto.
