Burna Boy’s chart-topping hit, “Last Last,” has just been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, setting a new record in the Afrobeats genre. The track, which is the lead single off his Grammy-nominated album “Love, Damini,” features a sample of Toni Braxton’s iconic song, “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” which had a significant impact on Burna Boy’s childhood.

Despite its origins in personal turmoil, “Last Last” quickly became a global sensation, debuting at No. 44 on the Hot 100 and climbing to No. 1 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 2 on Billboard’s U.S. Rhythmic chart. The breakup anthem has already been certified Platinum in Canada, France, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, and now, it has achieved the same coveted status in the United States.

This impressive feat makes “Last Last” the fastest Afrobeats song by an African artist to go Platinum in the United States, surpassing Wizkid and Tems’ hit “Essence,” which took around two years to reach Platinum status. Even Rema’s widely popular “Calm Down” fell short of “Last Last,” reaching RIAA platinum status just shy of a year after its release.
