On February 22, 2023, the Miramar Cultural Center will be the stage for the highly anticipated Reggae Icon Awards ceremony, presented by the City of Miramar Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.
This year’s event will pay homage to some of the biggest names in the industry, including legendary reggae icon Marcia Griffiths. Dubbed the “Electric Lady,” Griffiths rose to fame as a member of Bob Marley’s backup singing group, the I-Threes, and will be honoured with the Reggae Icon award.
Another honoree of the evening is Winston Powell, also known as “Wee Pow,” the founder of the legendary Stone Love sound system. Powell revolutionized the music industry in the 70s, introducing the world to a new sound and breaking out new artists who went on to shape the future of the genre.
Alongside these two musical legends, Miami-Dade Commissioner Marleine Bastien will be presented with the Marcus Garvey Award, recognizing her tireless advocacy for equity, economic empowerment, and human rights.
The Awards ceremony starts at 6:30 pm, followed by the main event, from 7:30 pm to 11 pm.
